CINTA BUKAN SEKADAR RUPA

Gloria Shuri Nava, 25, has been dating her 22-year-old Scottish boyfriend for 18 months. She revealed that people have made especially cruel comments, both in person and online, about their relationship because he is lean and she, admittedly, is not.

A 25-year-old woman with a successful YouTube channel revealed that she has been taunted because she is overweight but has a thin, fit boyfriend.
Gloria Shuri Nava, who reviews makeup and dishes out advice with a heavy dose of comedy, recently shared her story, and shot back at critics, in an article for Yahoo entitled “I’m Overweight and My Boyfriend’s Not. Big Freaking Deal.”

“He’s someone you’d expect to see with a really hot, thin woman…not an overweight girl like me,” she said about the now-22-year-old.
Nava explained that she met her boyfriend, Ali, online back in 2009 when he came across her videos. Even though she was in San Jose, Calif., and he was in Glasgow, Scotland, they got to know each other, and eventually started dating.

That’s just what they say out loud. Online, bullies hiding behind the mask of anonymity have been meaner, leaving comments like “she has a boyfriend? What is wrong with the world?”
They have been together for 18 months and, whenever they go out together, Nava said they get “confused looks that say, ‘he can do better than her.’” People make comments ranging from “is he blind?” to “it’s great he can see past your looks,” she said.
Nava said others have gone as far as question how they have sex.
“I feel like saying, ‘If you have to ask, clearly you missed an important class back in the fifth grade.’”
The beauty blogger admitted she knew Ali was “into big girls,” and it didn’t make a difference.

“Some think it’s weird, but it’s like having a thing for blondes: It’s just a preference,” she said
The couple is still going strong. In fact, Ali is moving to California later this summer to get his PhD in clinical psychology.
“Ali is the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” she said. “He makes me feel like I’m good enough all of the time.”
Nava, whose YouTube page now has more than 266,000 subscribers, told the Daily News that Lori Majewski approached her about telling her story and, with Ali’s full support, she agreed.
“I wanted to expose the kind of prejudice Ali and I feel every day,” she told the Daily News.
The article exploded on social media, and elicited a lot of feedback — both good and bad.
“There have been many hateful responses that I hope will make most people take a step back and consider just why we provoke such cruelty,” she said. “And there have been wonderfully supportive responses as well. These are what really keep us going.”
Well, we at TheViralLife LOVE Gloria, so YOU GO GIRL!!
